Consolidants Influence on Sandstone Capillarity. X‐ray CT Study
The X‐ray CT technique has been applied to the study of the influence of water‐repellent and consolidant products on the movement of water inside a sedimentary rock (La Marina sandstone) that has been used as dimension stone in some historical monuments of Asturias (N of Spain). The water penetration depth and rate and their relation to the characteristics of the rock materials have been imaged under CT during capillarity tests in both pre and post‐treated samples. The efficacy of the treatment products can be assessed comparing some rock properties before and after the treatment. Some of these properties and characteristics (capillary penetration coefficient and capillary pore radius) can be quantified from the X‐ray CT studies.
