Architectural Education and the Politics of Architect–Client Relationships: A Case Study from Jordan
This chapter looks closely at two important aspects that impact architectural practice and the built environment: the present state of architectural education in 10 Jordanian universities, and the politics of architect‐client relationships. It discusses the findings of a research project that examines the nature of architect‐client relationships in Jordan by looking at seven case studies of residential projects. Students in Jordan do not currently have direct contact with real clients throughout the course of their studies. Their only chance to interact with clients is through the compulsory 10‐week period of field training. The interaction of different actors in the design is what makes both the design and the product. These social interactions require different patterns of communication skills that the students develop throughout their studies.
