Formulation of National Water Resources Policy in Israel
The future development of Israel's economy is largely dependent on the availability of water. The chief undeveloped resources are located in the north of the country, whereas planned additional consumption will be in the center and south. It will be necessary, therefore, to convey the surpluses of the north (mainly Jordan water) to the south. To cover the needs of the economy, the development and operation of the water resources have to be centralized to insure maximum yields and minimum losses. Such a centralized operation of the water grid is feasible because of the built‐in integrating features of the system and the legislation adopted by parliament. Research will be continued over the next decade in an effort to insure the supply required after 1980. The adoption of the centralized operation procedure and the far‐reaching water conservation practices will make it possible to provide the water required for agriculture and industry up to 1970.
