Global Environmental Challenges: Technology Design and Architectural Responses
This chapter presents the views of computation experts on the development of future technologies and the impacts on people, speculating about the next design challenges on the horizon. Designers offer thoughtful and largely optimistic viewpoints about important roles that architects can take in using digital tools for effective, collaborative, and interdisciplinary working. Timur Dogan offers insights into the need for simulation and comfort at a large scale. The digital tools that he is developing can be integrated into established architectural design workflows by using widely available computer‐aided design (CAD) software tools Rhino and Grasshopper. Werner Sobek is a renowned architect and engineer and heads the Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design (ILEK) at the University of Stuttgart. William W Braham is an architect and Director of the Master of Environmental Building Design, and Director of the TC Chan Center for Building Simulation and Energy Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Communication and collaboration are key ways of integrating new technologies for sustainable design into practice.
