A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
This chapter talks about using scripting to do more design in the design‐allotted time. It looks at the generic design object and at the ability of scripting to pursue greater variety and subtlety than would be possible using traditional media. The chapter uses an historical project as a means to show that the idea might transcend the technical knowhow, by considering an example of creative play from a world figure who died long before digital design had even been thought of. It also condenses Gaudi's clerestory window for the Sagrada Familia church as the case study, explaining Gaud's Boolean architecture. Scripting has been used in a number of ways, and this chapter gives the sense of the variety of coding that might be applied. Combining scripting with any software with parametric potential remains today a potent design cocktail.
