Progress Report on the California Water Project
This article provides a brief overview of the California Water Project, started in 1960 when the voters approved the bonds for financing the work. The article discusses the sources of financing for the project, along with the project's recreational policy, automation/remote control of facility operations, planning energy sources to pump project water, measuring the size of the project in terms of the quantities of project water, money, and time involved, creation of five small reservoirs, the Oroville Dam and flood control, the North San Joaquin Aqueduct section, joint state/federal ownership of sections of the project, shallow‐subsidence problem of the south San Joaquin Valley, problems crossing the Tehachapi Mountains, west and east aqueduct branches, power and pumping plant design, branches north of the Tehachapis, and the San Joaquin Valley drain.
