AWWA Advancement Program Joint Discussion
In this joint discussion, Eric F. Johnson briefly discusses the purpose and features of the AWWA Advancement Program that was developed to advance the industry and its personnel in their ability to provide “improved water service.” Components of a three‐phase program for management education include: correspondence course in management; seminars and schools; and, advanced management courses. The article also discusses six separate but related phases of a public information program, including: publications; publicity; advertising; speaker service; awards; and, promotion. John H. Murdoch, Jr. discusses a training course for water utility managers that is included in the article in an appendix, and contains 19 subjects. This course offers training in aspects of accounting, finance, engineering, chemistry, bacteriology, organization, and supervision that are relevant to water utility construction, operation, and management. Finally, Lewis S. Finch discusses an AWWA Section Advancement program.
