Committee Report: Research Needs for Alum Sludge Discharge
Because much of the research related to alum sludge discharge has been done outside the water supply field, this report provides a more detailed summary of the existing research than might normally be given. A three‐pronged approach is taken in this report, detailing (1) research on the environmental effects of alum sludge discharge, (2) current regulations, and (3) identification of research needs. The committee believes that significant research must be completed before alum sludge discharge practices can be supported or eliminated.
