Effects of Road Salt on a Vermont Stream
Deicing roads by salting them may or may not reduce accidents, but salting roads definitely does raise the salt level of streams that flow nearby. The problem is not, according to the author, one that demands remedial measures by communities with large reservoirs, but it does deserve attention—especially by small‐community water suppliers in the northern states.
