Water quality monitoring in a limited‐use watershed
Hydrologic characteristics are being defined and effects of human activity on water quality are being investigated for the Bull Run River basin, the source of water supply for Portland, Ore. Water quality data are collected at nine hydrologic stations representing various levels of activity. Characteristics under investigation include sedimentation, periphyton production, and selected physical properties. Since the initial eruption of Mount St. Helens on Mar. 27, 1980, precipitation and dry ash collectors have been used to collect information on conditions resulting from volcanic ashfall in the Bull Run basin. No significant changes in stream pH have been observed since volcanic activity began.
