Headaches and Challenges for Utility Executives
At the AWWA Annual Conference and Exposition in San Francisco last June, utility executives from across the United States convened to discuss current and upcoming concerns. The Water Utility Leadership Forum was facilitated by Ane Deister, general manager of the El Dorado Irrigation District, Placerville, Calif.; Arlene Post, director of resource conservation and public outreach for the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District, Calabasas, Calif.; and Marsi Steirer, deputy director of the San Diego (Calif.) Water Dept. The panel featured J. Paul Blake—director of community relations development for Seattle (Wash.) Public Utilities; Randy Brown—director, City of Pompano Beach (Fla.) Utilities Department; Steve Densberger—executive vice‐president, Pennichuck Water Works, Nashua, N.H.; Clay Duffie—general manager, Mount Pleasant Waterworks, S.C.; Deanne Kloepfer—director of strategic management and communications, El Dorado Irrigation District; Karen Snyder—public relations consultant, Nashville, Tenn.; Marcia St. Martin—executive director of the Sewage and Water Board of New Orleans, La.; Derrick Whitehead—director, City of Roseville (Calif.) Environmental Utilities; and Tim Worley—assistant group manager of external affairs for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Los Angeles.
