Detailing and Annotations
Construction details and annotations are the core elements used within a building information modelling (BIM) project to transform it from a three‐dimensional model to a two‐dimensional set of drawings. The assembly of all drawings used on a given project is referred to as the plans. Drawings were provided to convey design intent of the overall project, while specifications provided the accurate detail information and the requirements for the performance of the project and its specific components. Details are often created or imported from traditional CAD software and enhance the actual appearance of connections, transitions, and terminations within section views. The graphics associated with details and annotations are very simple in nature. Based on the countless combinations of construction coupled with constant innovation within the building products industry, the use of two‐dimensional details within drawing sheets will likely be with us for some time.
