Alumina‐Based Phosphate Cement
This paper aims at developing improved phosphate cement (PC) based on wollastonite and alumina powders. These two mineral powders form the PC when reacting with the phosphoric acid. Since it is a wollastonite‐alumina based PC, it can be referred to as Ca‐Al‐PC because the metal ions enable the acid base reaction. It can also be called alumina‐based PC as a reminder that alumina is the raw material that originates the stable microstructure at high temperature. Alumina is more stable at high temperatures than wollastonite. Phosphate materials as an alternative solution to high performance cements and ceramics have been presented in this paper. These materials were fully synthesized at room temperature and have fast and controllable setting time (from minutes to hours). Furthermore, its pH can be controlled conveniently. It is important to use fibers susceptible to alkaline corrosion damage when dealing with neutral systems.
