Flame Photometric Determination of Lithium in Water
This report describes the flame photometric method used by Pro and Mather in the investigation of lithium in whiskey as adapted to the determination of lithium in natural water. The study examined the accuracy of the method when used to determine lithium in water samples of widely different chemical composition. A spectrophotometer with oxygen‐acetylene flame and photomultiplier attachment was used, along with a stock lithium solutions and a working lithium solution. The procedure, calculation, and precision and accuracy are discussed, and results indicated that the flame photometric method, using an oxygen‐acetylene atomizer‐burner and photomultiplier attachment, affords a rapid, accurate, and sensitive method for the determination of lithium in natural water. Specific results are provided.
