Evaluation and Rehabilitation of Older, Circular Prestressed Concrete Tanks
Although some older circular prestressed concrete tanks are now showing the ill effects of exposure after many years of dependable service, their service lives are not over. Through condition appraisal, the cause of the deterioration and distress can be identified. After the condition appraisal, rehabilitation strategies can be developed and evaluated. This article discusses how to implement a cost‐effective rehabilitation plan and perform regular upkeep to extend the service life of circular prestressed concrete tanks. Topics covered include: circular, prestressed concrete tank construction; common types of deterioration and distress; evaluating distress and deterioration: the condition appraisal; rehabilitation as a viable alternative to replacement; and, the importance of regular upkeep.
