A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Closing Remarks
Whether all, some, or none of the ‘emerging’ systems described become commonplace will likely be determined by factors other than science and technological development. Ultimately, the resulting technological demands placed on building services engineers are a consequence of planning, building form, and building envelope design. Therefore, it is at this early stage that decisions regarding health and well‐being in the indoor environment must be taken. Building planning is driven by government regulation and policy which is, in part, informed by industry advisory bodies. Perhaps, it is by sitting on such bodies and leading the discussion that experienced building services engineers can have their greatest effect on the creation of low emission, habitable, indoor spaces.
