Conserving Historic Parks and Gardens in a Changing Climate
Conservation of historic parks and gardens needs to address climate change and adaptation issues needed now, in a generation's time, the end of the century and beyond. The challenges are multiple and complex because of the numerous interactions, uncertainties and timescales. The priority must be to develop resilience so that these valued historic designed landscapes can continue to be enjoyed for many decades to come. Good horticultural and silvicultural practice can undoubtedly help accommodate climate change impacts for at least the next generation, and conservation management plans can be used to monitor climate change impacts and develop longer term conservation strategies. Further research and guidance will help the sector plan strategic and local conservation strategies.
