This chapter explains the role data plays for building owners in their facilities. It shows how consumers of architecture, building tenants and users, can benefit from an awareness of building data. Data helps clients understand their facilities in a more data‐driven way. It facilitates a better understanding of the implications of pursuing objectives. For data to be implemented and utilized on building projects, often owners need to ask for it. Owners also need to understand how data can help them in their building projects after the building is completed and they are operating the facility. The most successful firms are those that embrace an open feedback loop into their process. Data visualization helps owners understand the data. The chapter also explains what we should be optimistic about concerning where design, construction, and operations are headed in an innovative use of data and building information management.
