The 54 m high Urft masonry dam was constructed as gravity dam in the years 1900 to 1904. An extensive rehabilitation program was carried out, consisting of two inspection galleries and vertical drainage holes on the upstream side of the dam. The mechanical and hydraulic parameters of the dam and the foundation rock were determined by means of tests, carried out in core drillings and in the galleries. Furthermore, the dam was instrumented and displacements, pore pressures, quantities of seepage water and temperatures in the dam were monitored. The measurement results were back analyzed with the aid of 3D Finite Element analyses. Furthermore, the stability of the dam was proven for the relevant loading cases.
