Architectural Considerations of Elevators
Elevator lobby size in front of an elevator bank depends on the dimensions of the elevator group. Destination control system control gave more architectural freedom for the elevator lobby design than the conventional system. The control system can take into account the walking time from the destination operating panel to the elevator. Passenger elevators are designed to carry a defined load. Shapes and areas of passenger elevators, and elevator shafts, depend on the elevator product, such as elevator speeds, control systems and other arrangements. In planning elevator vertical dimension, space for the machine room, overhead and pit have to be reserved. Each manufacturer gives their own dimensions to the elevator shafts and machine rooms. Double‐deck (DD) elevators are suitable for passenger transportation, especially in tall office buildings where the traffic is heavy. DD elevators save building core space most when they are used as shuttle elevators.
