The Water-Power of the Falls of St. Anthony
Thirty years ago this summer the land now occupied by Minneapolis proper, that is, the west side of the river, previously included in the military reservation of Fort Snelling, was thrown open to settlement and taken up on pre-emption claims. At the same time a town had been established on a permanent and substantial basis only 8 or 9 miles distant, which had already become a place of note and importance and the capital of the territory.
