In a recent paper (1),2 the writer developed a functional equation describing the surface spread of a buoyant jet discharged at depth. Experiments were described which gave the actual relationship among the parameters of the equation; the results were plotted to form a congruency diagram and the implications of this diagram were explained with particular reference to hydraulic model design.
