Image-Based Microstructural Analysis and Discrete Element Simulation of Asphalt Mixture
Limitations in test methods and challenges in data monitoring results in difficulties in further researching asphalt mixture. This paper proposes a digital simulation scheme of asphalt mixture, which simulates the asphalt mixture specimens and its whole loading process based on road engineering, CT scanning technology, image processing, and intelligent recognition technology, discrete element method, and the mechanics theory. Firstly, the paper uses CT scanning technology to scan the asphalt mixture specimens and also uses intelligent image recognition and digital reconstituted technology to establish a database of asphalt mixture. Secondly, based on the digital reconstituted of the mixture, discrete element method, mechanics theory, and other techniques, a Stdburgers model is developed for asphalt mortar in the road field. Finally, the paper combines AASHTO dynamic modulus test and triaxial test to verify the mixture simulation model.
