Application of Super-Hydrophobic and Self-Cleaning Coating in Tunnel Engineering
Super-hydrophobic and self-cleaning coating has the advantages of economy, beauty, and environmental protection. It has been widely used in many fields, such as high-rise buildings, curtain walls, bridges, cars, and wind power generation. However, it is hardly used in the tunnel engineering. This paper demonstrates the feasibility of super-hydrophobic materials in the application of tunnel wall descaling in that it promotes the drop rolling off, influences the formation process of dirt and reduces the adhesion of dirt. The main factors influencing the adhesion of “dirt-wall” were analyzed with respect to roughness of materials and chemical composition changes. The SEM images and contact angle measurement of the three hydrophobic coatings selected in this project were analyzed. The super-hydrophobic materials were applied on the pre-laying of Wanjunhui Tunnel test road. It is proven to be effective in terms of bonding strength, water resistance, and fire resistance. It’s concluded that it’s of great value to apply super-hydrophobic and self-cleaning technology for inner wall of tunnel.
