Unique Solution for Difficult Rigging Problem
The antenna network of aluminum conductors consists of a series of concentric triangles. The erection was accomplished without ground contact of the conductors. The solution consisted of suspending a structural steel erection triangle from the three mountain top towers which were to support the final antenna, and literally pulling the whole antenna through the erection triangle and spreading it out on the erection lines which supported the triangle. This was facilitated by supporting the junction plates that held the antenna network together, on small four-wheeled cars which rode on the erection lines like rails. The total weight of the aluminum conductors was about 70,000 lb and the maximum span lengths were about 3,600 ft. The erection method necessitated men working in the suspended erection triangle from 300 ft to 500 ft over the ground.
