New Foundation Design for Container Yard in Singapore
The current foundation type for container yards in Singapore is mainly reinforced concrete (RC) piles driven into soft clay layers. However, the demolition of RC piles for port redevelopment in the future is difficult and expensive. One way to overcome this problem is to use rigid inclusions without reinforcement. One foundation design method using rigid inclusion is proposed. The design concept and numerical simulation for bearing capacity and ground settlement and construction sequence will be presented in this paper. In addition to overcoming future demolition difficulties, the proposed new method is also cheaper and faster to install as compared with the existing method. It is hoped through this study, the new design method will be adopted for future port construction in Singapore.
