PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF ADAMA CITY WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM, OROMIA, ETHIOPIA
Water is an essential element required for life. The demand for water is continuously increasing due to an increase in population, industrialization, urbanization and improved standard of living. The problem of providing a safe water supply service in Adama City was increase due to an increase in population. Due to this problem, the demand for additional water sources and infrastructure is growing. The aim of this study was, to evaluate the performance of the Adama city water supply system. The performance evaluation of water supply services using IWA system of performance indicator this was analyzed by SigmaV3.4 water supply service performance indicator software, hydraulic performance were analyzed and the user perception was analyzed by SPSS and Percapita water consumption and water loss were analyzed. The performance measures of junction pressure were checked based on the coefficient of determination (R2) and the degree of accuracy. Analysis of the selected performance indicators shows that among the IWA indicators of water supply service, water resource availability was 73.05%, water loss per connection 48.22(m3/connection/year), treated water storage capacity 0.63/day, population per public tap 244.21(persons/tap). User perception analysis result shows that, about 69% of households were connected to the water distribution system, Households included in the analysis which connected to the water distribution network were 69% of the total households included in the analysis. Out of the total households included in the study, of the respondents, 64.5% have individual connection 22.3% use community tap and 13.3% buy water from vendors. From the total households in the town, about 45% were collect rain. The result of the analysis shows that no other water sources for the HHs without water supplied by the water supply and sanitation enterprise of the city and rainwater. The average per capita water consumption and water loss analysis were done. Average per capita consumption of Adama city was 38.25l/c/d and the water loss was 34.67% of the system input volume. The minimum and maximum pressure in the water distribution system were 24 and 133 mH2O respectively
