Method of installation as factor in sand drain stabilization design
Factors of design of sand drain installations for use in embankment foundation stabilization are reviewed and concept of "grid efficiency" for comparing performance of drains installed by various methods is developed; concept is employed to explain greater effectiveness of drains installed by flight auger method as compared to results obtained with drains installed by mandrel method in connection with highway projects in Flushing Meadows area of New York City.
