Discussion of problems of maintenance which have been experienced on Hertfordshire and Northamptonshire sections of London-Yorkshire Motorway M.1, M.10 and M.45; distribution of general arrangements for maintenance; survey of existing traffic, asphalt pavement repairs by 1 1/2-in. wearing course of hot rolled asphalt, and correction of spalling and cracks in concrete pavement; damaged shoulder areas were coated to depth of 2 to 3 in. with dense asphalt macadam; repairs of cuts and fills, improvement of drainage in median and general maintenance problems; grooving and rubber compounds were used for reducing skidding; timber dividers between lanes are provided.
