Mechanically laid mastic asphalt in Germany
Review of use of "gussasphalt" in West Germany, theory of application and construction procedures; German specifications of "gussasphalt" include 22% of sand and 24% of filler instead of 44.8% of limestone powder in British paving mastic asphalt specifications; quality of German mastic asphalt is higher with better coating of sand and fine grains; asphalt is compressed by crimping roller; damaged surfacing can be repaired simply; after layer of surfacing has been removed, fresh mix can be applied mechanically to existing base course; grip and resistance to wear and tear even after prolonged subjection to traffic are still above average of other methods of construction.
