Problem in building Interstate Highway 79 across Conneaut Marsh in western Pennsylvania, was to assure that heavy construction equipment could get in to do job; twin bridges on pile foundations would carry highway over swamp; some 110,000 cu yd of peat were dredged to make channel 9×150 ft and 2200 ft long; floating equipment was then brought in to drive 816 steel pipe piles that would support twin bridges across marsh.
