Construction of two piers, each 60 ft. in width by 130 ft. in length, with semi-circular ends having radii of 30 ft., by open-caisson method; outside walls of caissons were 3 to 3 1/2 ft. thick; details of mixing plant and anchorage of caissons; sudden sinking and tilting of one of caissons and method of righting it; author disapproves of type of caisson used at Poughkeepsie.
