Thermal stresses due to unequal thermal coefficients of concrete and reinforcing steel
Laboratory investigations reveal lower thermal conductivity and lower coefficient of thermal expansion for light weight concretes than those generally reported for natural-aggregate concretes; lower thermal conductivity results in lower temperature differentials, reduced probability of condensation, and decreased thermal movements; also it causes stress transfer between concrete and steel.
