Cofferdams of Rance tidal power stations
To permit construction of plant, building site was enclosed in cofferdam formed by 28 sand-filled caissons 18 to 21 m in diam and 19 m high, constructed of steel sheet piling; river cutoff is constituted by 19 prefabricated reinforced concrete caissons 9 m in diam and from 17 to 25 m high which were floated into position and sunk; foundations were executed with help of floating pneumatic caisson having 22×15×2 m working chamber; power plant will be equipped with 10,000 kw tubular bulb turbogenerators.
