Protective coatings cut open-deck bridge fires
Fire retardant coatings applied by Southern Pacific-Pacific Lines to top surfaces of ties and other deck timbers on open deck trestles and open deck bridges; since practice was first introduced in 1942, it has been applied to 1419 structures.
