Navigation and sedimentation conditions at typical lock and dam Arkansas river, Arkansas and Oklahoma
Movable-bed, distorted scale model of typical 5-mi reach of Arkansas River was used to study problems involved in location, design, and operation of lock and dam on river bend; test results indicate that lock and dam should be placed as far downstream of point of convex bar as possible, that ports will be required in upper guard wall of lock to reduce intensity of crosscurrents, that shoaling could be reduced by wing wall at end of lower guard wall, and that there is no appreciable difference between stepped and level-sill dam insofar as movement of sediment is concerned.
