Spillway for typical low-head navigation dam -- Arkansas River, Arkansas
Spillways of dam to be constructed will consist of 60 ft wide bays through which flow will be regulated by tainter gates; investigations were conducted using section models to determine optimum gate sill and pier nose shapes, spillway capacity with full and partial gate openings for both free and submerged flows, stilling basin performance, and riprap requirements; discharge characteristics of flows and limits of each flow regime and corresponding discharge equation were determined for various apron elevations.
