Structural timber and steel make ferry bridges
Design features of 7 140-ft long transfer bridges as part of ferry system built by Alaska's Dept of Pub Works; bridges are timber and steel structure with through truss framing system with trusses spaced 20 ft on centers; chords and web members are flued, laminated structural timbers connected by steel gusset plates; deck comprises nail laminated 2×6's protected by 1 1/2 in. of plant mix asphaltic concrete covered by nonskid seal coat; design was complicated by 27 ft tide at most of sites.
