Experimental attempt to prevent rapid blocking of harbor entrance caused by littoral drift in summer period is described; work was conducted at fishing harbor constructed on sandy beach in Hokkaido, Japan; objective was to determine efficiency of two jetties constructed on updrift side for purpose of countering sand drift; based on model and field investigations, author suggests utilization of natural forces, i.e. waves, offshore currents, etc, by constructing offshore breakwater to curb blockage of harbor mouth.
