First stage of two-part development scheme at Aberdeen included deepening of harbor entrance channel and provision of new deep water berth by extending existing berth from 500 to 1000 ft in length; ships drawing up to 30 ft 6 in. can now be accommodated; work included demolition of existing timer wharf and extraction of old piles; for new work, steel sheet piled retaining wall with reinforced concrete quay, ready mixed concrete was successfully used.
