Description of bracing of 97 ft diam open sheet pile cofferdam with circular concrete wales; latter permitted unobstructed work on pumpwell for condensing water intake at Union Electric Power Co's plant in Venice, Ill; cofferdam of Z sheet piling, had only two wales to hold it against 53 ft differential head of earth and water; wales were designed as circular beams 4 ft high, with effective depth of 4 ft 6 in.
