Teeming steel under slag
Surface quality and macrostructure are considerably improved when structural and high-alloy steel is cast under layer of slag formed by combustion of exothermic mixture in ingot mold; ingots of many types of steel can be rolled from hot charging without dressing and this greatly reduces and simplifies production cycle; yield of good rolled product is increased and quality improved; work required for dressing is greatly reduced; savings amount to from 1 to 10 dollars/ton of rolled product depending on steel quality.
