Elastic properties of sand are studied in triaxial compression tests; it is shown that elastic properties are only function of state of soil as expressed by stress and void ratio; for samples with given initial void ratio, elastic properties vary both with deviator stress and mean normal stress; elastic properties become anisotropic when soil element is sheared; anisotropy appears to be function of stress ratio; incremental elastic stress-strain relationship is presented.
