Investigation of elastic tubes in cohesionless continuum
Model tests were designed for investigating behavior of tunnel linings in unconsolidated rock formations; rings made of photoelastic material were used for study of stresses, and thin walled steel rings for buckling study; compressibility of bedding was simulated by rubber ring stretched around model and cohesionless, noncompressible medium by steel rolls of various diameters; diagrams and fringe photographs of circumferential stresses distribution and photographs of ring buckling are presented; test results are discussed.
