Method for compaction of asphaltic concrete beam specimens by means of California kneading compactor; variations in density and void content of beam specimens compacted by kneading compactor are analyzed; compaction method and results depend on type, gradation, and surface texture of aggregates, viscosity of asphalt, temperature of mixture and applied load; California kneading compactor is shown to be suitable for molding beam specimens for study of moduli of elasticity and rupture, flexure and fatigue characteristics of asphalt mixtures and flexible pavement.
