Dynamic considerations in aseismic design of earth dams
Design acceleration for earth dam can be worked out from standard acceleration spectra derived for single mass system on basis of actual seismic records in accordance with proposed procedure; design recommendation assuming triangular distribution of acceleration varying from zero at base to maximum at top is based on consideration of fundamental mode only; this may lead to under-design in case of high dams in lower portions where bulk of mass is concentrated.
