Concrete cutoff wall drilled down 250 Ft
Gorge 250 ft deep was crossed by cutoff wall to provide watertight upstream cofferdam for Manicougan 5, one of world's largest dams, in Quebec; row of holes 24 in. in diam, 4 ft on centers, was drilled across gorge, held open by bentonite slurry and filled with tremie concrete; intervening spaces were drilled with special wing bit that cleaned out areas between first holes, which were then concreted in same way; concrete wall and compacted alluvium impregnated with bentonite, made nearly watertight wall.
