Description of how stilting of wood props prevented damage to steel girders and to props supporting them, at Aldwarke Main colliery; stilts consist of two 3 by 3-in. angle irons, held to lower part of prop by clamps, leaving 18 in. between base of prop and foot block; these yielding supports have beneficial effect on roadway conditions. (see also Colliery Guardian v 162 n 4182 Feb 21 1941 p 175; Iron and Coal Trades Rev v 142 n 3809 Feb 28 1941 p 269)
