Effect of internal stresses on toughness of common structural steels in finish-rolled condition
After review of modern concepts of strength of materials, examples are described to support claim that in production of high strength steels for steel and reinforced concrete construction more attention should be paid to stresses in crystal structure after rolling, particularly those caused by hydrogen; simple precautions in melting and fabrication to reduce danger of brittle fracture are discussed.
