Variability in asphalt concrete mix
Research was conducted as part of program being undertaken by Bureau of Public Roads to develop control and acceptance procedures, based on statistical quality control techniques, to all aspects of highway materials and construction; in work reported averages and variations in temperature, asphalt content, and aggregate gradation were determined in asphalt concrete wearing course mix produced for construction job; statistical analysis was made to show effect of test method, sampling procedure and material (batch-to-batch) variation on overall variations obtained.
